A TASTE OF CALABRIA

DAY 1: BADOLATO

Benvenuti in Calabria! Upon arrival at Lamezia Terme International Airport you’ll be welcomed by your private driver, who will bring you to Badolato, an old medieval village perched on a hill at 250 mt. above sea level. After the check-in at the carefully restored, historic properties in the “albergo diffuso” in Badolato our tour starts right off with an easy walk with your native local guide. He will reveal you Badolato’s culture, architecture, natural and political history and tell stories about the calabrian people and their traditions. Discover little narrow streets and hidden corners that gives Badolato a special charm. Get immersed directly in the life of the locals. Enjoy a delectable welcome dinner  at “Catojo dello Spinetto”, a local restaurant in an old cellar where you get to find out more about the itinerary of the week. Overnight.

DAY 2: GERACE & MAMMOLA

Breakfast and depart to Mammola an old inn land village for a visit to the park museum “Musaba”. We’ll continue to Gerace, a beautiful and intact medieval town, where we’ll visit the majestic Cathedral with three aisles, supported by columns of the temples of Locri Epizephiri. After a nice walk through this wonderfull medieval town we’ll stop at Piazza del Tocco for a special aperitif at the “Gelateria del Tocco”, one of the best ice cream shops in Calabria. Late in the afternoon return back to Badolato for dinner at a local restaurant. Overnight.

DAY 3: BADOLATO & COOKING CLASS!

Breakfast and morning at your leisure to relax. Early in the afternoon we depart to Badolato Marina, where in a local beach club we’ll enjoy a truly authentic “calabrian cooking class” with a local chef, followed by a delicious dinner. We will learn exciting traditional recipes including how to make calabrian typical dishes. Overnight.

DAY 4: SILK TRIP EXPERIENCE IN SAN FLORO

After breakfast, we’ll head to San Floro, a charming village surrounded by lush green hills. Here, a dedicated group of young Calabrians has revitalized the age-old tradition of silkworm breeding, making it their primary focus. They’ve created a harmonious blend of craftsmanship, culture, art, and culinary delights. Our journey start with a with a visit to the Silk Museum inside the historic castle. Afterward, we’ll stroll through the Mulberry orchard and wrap up our guided adventure beneath the canopy of a centuries-old pine tree. Here, you’ll savor a lunch featuring locally sourced organic products, celebrating the region’s rich agricultural heritage. In the early afternoon return back to Badolato and rest of the evening at your leisure to relax. Overnight.

DAY 5: SERRA SAN BRUNO

After breakfast, we’ll embark on a journey to Serra San Bruno, nestled high amidst the majestic peaks of the “Serre Calabresi” mountains. Our destination is the historic abbey known as “La Certosa,” a Carthusian monastery with a rich history dating back to 1095 when it was founded by Saint Bruno of Cologne. We’ll take a leisurely stroll along the naturalistic path known as the “Sentiero Frassati,” starting from “La Certosa” and leading us to the “Santuario Santa Maria del Bosco.” Along the way, you’ll have the opportunity to immerse yourself in the serene beauty of the surroundings. Lunchtime will be a treat at one of the local restaurants, where you can savor the highly coveted porcini mushrooms that thrive in the wild on the Serra mountain range, offering a unique culinary experience. Following our delicious meal, we’ll make our way back to Badolato, allowing you the rest of the afternoon to unwind at your leisure, savoring the tranquility and beauty of the area. Overnight.

DAY 6: SOVERATO

After breakfast we will head to Soverato for a nice walk through the local food market, offering a chance to purchase typical regional products and souvenirs. Soverato boasts one of Calabria’s most renowned seaside promenades, nestled along the Ionian Sea and surrounded by picturesque villages with pristine white sandy beaches. Enjoy a leisurely aperitif at one of the local clubs along the promenade, followed by relaxation on the inviting white sandy beach. In the afternoon we will continue to Simona’s home to enjoy a homemade pizza cooking lesson at “Casa di mia Mamma”. Rreturn back to your accommodation and overnight.

DAY 7: DAY 4: STILO – GUARDAVALLE

After breakfast, we’ll head to “Agriturismo Villa Vittoria,” a local farm in Guardavalle. Explore the groves and the “Museum of rural culture.” Enjoy a lunch featuring local products and seasonal fruit, all lovingly prepared by Nonna Vittoria. Take some time to relax. We then continue to the medieval village of Stilo, visiting the old-city center and its amazing byzantine church “La Cattolica”, which was buitl under the colonization of Greek-Byzantine. Return to your accommodation to relax before we will conclude the evening with our farewell dinner at “Catojo dello Spinetto” in the historic center of Badolato with a dinner featuring local specialties and, of course, some Calabrian music.

Day 8: BADOLATO – LAMEZIA TERME

After breakfast, it’s time to go back! A shuttle takes you to the Lamezia Terme International Airport by 10 a.m. for your return flight. Arrivederci
